Song Against Shadow: The Song of Svarnil ReviewI am posting my son's review, and adding a few comments of my own below his. We purchased the paperback version last year for a birthday present, and he enjoyed it immensely, as have I.
Song Against Shadow by Anne E.G. Nydam, is a book of hope, song, and death. With dragons and mages, and bards and warriors, to name only a few of the peoples in the otherworld, this story is an amazing read you won't ever want to put down.
~Grant S.The rich descriptive passages and the careful rendering of the characters is impressive. I appreciate the way the author deals with issues of life and death, and the way intent affects the rightness of actions. They are good lessons on honor and responsibility, and what really matters. Like the Earthsea books by Ursula K. LeGuin, the hero is a young person, who gradually finds her strength and her voice. I recommend it for fantasy readers from about 5th or 6th grade through adult.
