Dragon Skurfers ReviewI am twenty years old and a girl, so this book was not exactly to my taste, but I was impressed by how entertaining the storyline was. The two protagonists were believeable, and the idea of having close, even vital friendships with dragons would (I imagine, having four younger brothers) appeal to any boy. The story did not disappoint: both the dragons and the protagonists kept my interest and I was genuinely concerned about their prospects. The climax was the highlight of the book, as it should be and so rarely is with most children's literature. The villain remained impressive throughout and it took all of the heroes' courage and strength to defeat him. That is also a rare trait in children's literature. Most villains either turn coward and run or go mad and destroy themselves in an insane frenzy, and this cheapens the victory. In Dragon Skurfers, however, both boys DESERVE the victory. I would enjoy seeing more stories of this calibre.Dragon Skurfers OverviewMost young adolescents only dream of great deeds and wild adventures. What if a couple of typical 21st century teens suddenly found themselves in a strange and fantastic world? Gabriel Hunter and his younger brother Zach were spending a perfect day snowboarding the half-pipe and checking out trails. The last run of the day would be down Demon's Gate. A Black Diamond trail due to open in a couple of weeks. They never made it to the end of that trail. Instead, they were plunged into an unimaginable ride, into a world where elves, dragons and demons are part of everyday life. After being hunted and threatened by the inhabitants of this new world Gabriel and Zach must decide if the bond they are developing with some of the dragons is worth fighting for. The balance of power is shifting, and Gabriel and Zach discover that the skills they once took for granted could change the future of an entire civilization.
