A Visitor to Sandahl: Tales of the Bard (Volume 1) ReviewEven if you have never heard of Methanasia (which I hadn't), this compilation is terrific fun. The contributing authors riff on the characters and play off each other to take the reader deeper and deeper into a very special place, where a vampire hotel night clerk, dwarves, warriors, herbalists, a girl who survives a terrible family tragedy to be propelled into a whole new life in Methanasia, a psychic female assassin, and plenty of travelers come and go.
It's rather like taking a trip with a tour group, where personalities are revealed over time as you explore the customs and daily life of a place you've never been before.
Just, please, skip the meat pies that are proffered as you enter Methanasia. I have a feeling there's a reason they make the dogs whine.A Visitor to Sandahl: Tales of the Bard (Volume 1) OverviewA compendium of short stories set in the fantasy world of Methanasia made popular in the Cable Hornman, Bard series. Various writers were challenged to develop a short story to fit in or around the town of Sandahl. This small mountain valley realm is at the crossroads of the continent, geographically astride the intersection of three of the major mountain ranges and politically in between three separate empires. Sandahl is the guardian of the pass to the lands in the north where all manner of evil dwell and the most popular trade center in the continent. Provided only the more significant details of the area, each author created a story to blend in with the varied and interesting populace of Sandahl. The stories range from typical accounts of fantasy, love and medieval combat to mind racking adventures that affect the very time and space continuum in their exotic land. Compiled by C. Lee Brown
