Shadowrun Book #1: Born to Run Reviewi'm not exactly sure why they restarted this series, number-wise that is. perhaps to introduce new characters like kellan,lothan, silver max and the like. i am only four or five books short of reading (for the second time in some cases) the entire first run of the shadowrun series. it's tight as far as continuity goes, it makes reference to the "night of rage" and goblinization and other historical events in the shadowrun history. stephen kenson "keeps it real" in the true SR fashion. this book is accessible to all fans, new and old. this books does a good job explaining SR lingo,lifestyle and metatypes in an interesting manner, exciting to the new reader, but yet not redundant to the experienced SR reader. kenson does it again!! up there with charette !!! buy it !!Shadowrun Book #1: Born to Run OverviewEarth, 2063. Long-dormant magical forces have reawakened, and the creatures of mankind's legends and nightmares have come out of hiding. Megacorporations act as the new world superpowers, and the dregs of society fight for their own power. Sliding through the cracks in between are shadowrunners-underworld professionals who will do anything for a profit, and anything it takes to get the job done. Kellan Colt has come to Seattle to make a name for herself. But her first run proves that in her line of work, there's no such thing as a sure thing, and that in her world, there is only one law-survival.

Shadowrun #5: Aftershock A Shadowrun Novel ReviewI wasn't a huge fan of the book. I felt it did a good job setting up the Shadowrun world, but some of the characters beyond irritating.
You have a male elf who the author makes out as perfect. He's fighting small armies single-handedly and throws out terrible one-liners all while keeping a grin on his face. I hated everything about this character and his creepy, incestuous-implied relationship with his sister elf.
The male elf has a sister who is a caster. The irritating thing with movies/books that involve magic is it's like watching an episode of the old batman show; there is always a magic gadget (spell in this case) that saves the party from impending doom. It's nice to know that the caster can muster up powerful magic on a moment's notice that she has next-to-no experience with.
The orc hacker is odd - at best. She has no real purpose in the book except to make problems for the runners. She had potential to be interesting but gets all but written out of the book halfway through.
Not all of the characters are bad. Hood (troll), Roland (human), and Jhones (dwarf) kept me reading.
The story itself does a good job recreating the Shadowrun world. It's a silly at times and the ending was a little disappoint.Shadowrun #5: Aftershock A Shadowrun Novel OverviewThe troll known as Hood and his fellow Shadowrunners steal some biotechnological agriculture from the Plantech Corporation-only to find themselves framed for murder and tied to an even greater conspiracy.

Ragnarock (Shadowrun 38) ReviewIt's been a while since we've been graced with a Shadowrun novel, and this one was pretty good. It centers around Talon (from Crossroads and the Dragon Heart trilogy before that), which of course means more high magic. This one is a standard "shadowrun" type story in that it's actually about a team of runners, hired by a Johnson, going on the mission, et al. Why did I like it? The story was interesting, had some different elements that kept you guessing, the characters were good, and it was set in a different location (Germany), which is new as far as Shadowrun novels go. What didn't I like? I'd like to see some new characters! Talon is an interesting focus, powerful mage, neat magic item, etc., but I'd like to see some variety in the SR universe since FASA hasn't been putting out as many novels lately. Final verdict - if you're a fan of the Shadowrun universe, check it out. A key player in the SR mythos is featured that hasn't been used that much, and besides that it's a good story.
