Nocturne, Son of the Night ReviewI highly recommend this story for those who love fantasy and adventure for the escapism it provides.A.J. Cooper presents the world of Varda with an ease of entry that is at once familiar and cozy, yet interesting enough to keep you there, wondering where he will take you next.
Nocturne himself is interesting as a main character and probably, because I'm not the most familiar with this particular genre of fantasy, the adventures of Nocturne reminds me a bit of Conan the Barbarian, in
that he is a wandering character, traveling, fighting, escaping, and having adventures. The ending was well done, leaving you satisfied at where the journey of Nocturne leaves us, yet wanting more of the world.
And even though the main character is Nocturne, I feel the world of Varda is the real character in the story. From what I've gathered from A.J Cooper's author page, this seems to be the case and I'm looking forward to more stories to come out of Varda in the future.
All in all, this was a great little gem for $0.99 and I recommend it if you like fantasy/adventure with a wandering, kick-ass vampire elf thrown in.Nocturne, Son of the Night Overview"Seeing the great darkness within the Elvenking's heart, the High God cursed his descendants with a thirst for blood..."Nocturne, one of those descendants, doesn't fit in with the other Druen. He has a heart for humans, something not well respected in his society. One winter night this "weakness" gets the best of him when he kills his neighbor to save a human slave. Forced to leave his life behind, he begins a world-spanning journey in pursuit of his true home. His search will take him from the frozen wilderness to the great Elven cities and beyond, perhaps even into the realms of humanity."The main character, Nocturne, is engaging and well-drawn... Cooper has created an intriguing and vivid fantasy world with a lot of plausible detail... [This book] is one of those Candide-type stories about the wanderer in search of himself and is quite compelling." - Inanna Arthen, author of MORTAL TOUCH
