The Ultimate Unauthorized Eragon Guide: The Hidden Facts Behind the World of Alagaesia (Inheritance Trilogy) ReviewPathetic. Sad. Lame. Disappointing... The list goes on. I was a big Eragon fan when I was given this book(before the movie came out and completely destroyed the storyline) and I was very exited to get it for Christmas. I was startled when I opened the book and found out that the introduction was just an argument about why faeries must exist in the real world. This feeling quickly changed to disappointment as I found that the book's main goal was to show how Eragon's magic didn't match with how the person writing the guide sees it is in their version of reality. This guide is a waste of time... unless you want to learn about a paste that you can make with poppy sap and put on your eyes to see faeries. The Ultimate Unauthorized Eragon Guide: The Hidden Facts Behind the World of Alagaesia (Inheritance Trilogy) OverviewIn Christopher Paolini's thrilling Inheritance series, when a young boy named Eragon finds a blue gemstone in the middle of the forest, he has no idea what magic is in store for him. It hatches a sapphire-blue dragon, a member of a race thought to be extinct. Eragon bonds with the dragon and soon discovers that he is the first in a new line of Dragon Riders, fated to play a part in a war that is poised to sweep his land. The Ultimate Unauthorized Eragon Guide is an interactive book that looks deep inside the complex world of Alagaësia to reveal facts behind the magical people, places, and creatures that fill the Inheritance series. Christmas Beer: The Cheeriest, Tastiest, and Most Unusual Holiday Brews ReviewNo one shares holiday cheer better than Philadelphia beer writer Don Russell, who celebrates the season with this newest book, Christmas Beer: The Cheeriest, Tastiest, and Most Unusual Holiday Beers.
Snuggle into an overstuffed chair by the fireplace and revel in the charms of this delightful and insightful book. In the turn of each page, you will be immersed in traditions of Christmas past. Russell, alias award-winning author Joe Sixpack of the Philadelphia Daily News, seduces the reader with welcoming warmth as he alights on a journey across generations. He regales us with stories of wassailing and ancient yuletide raucousness. Among his many narratives, is the tale of a grisly butcher and the miracle of Nicholas, the bishop of Myra. He recounts stories of the European and Viking traditions of Sinterklass and relays the history of American Thomas Nast who gave us our image of that jolly old elf.
Russell takes us through Europe to Nordkapp Bryggeri, the northernmost brewpub in the world, located just 1,311 miles from the North Pole, and southward to Castle Eggenberg in Austria to see the blessing of Samichlaus Beer. We travel to America, into the little town of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with its sassy Rude Elf Reserve, and westward to California, where Anchor Brewing celebrates the Christmas Beer of medieval villages and Shmaltz Brewing celebrates the Festival of Lights with He'brew Jewbelation.
Christmas Beer features more than 150 Winter Specialty beers that celebrate the season. Mr. Russell presents a chapter of "The World's 50 Best Christmas Beers," along with full-color photos that stimulate desire for a splash of malt and spice across the lips, accompanied by that warming sensation down the throat. Among this connoisseurs' cache are such beers as Mad Elf from Troegs Brewing in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Avec les Bons Voeux of Brasserie Dupont in Belgium, Baladin Noel of Birrificio Le Baladin in Italy, and Mahr's Christmas Bock of Brauerei Mahr of Bamberg, Germany. Russell expands the list with 100 more holiday beers in the subsequent chapter. I was astounded by the breadth of choices available for the season.
For those of us who love trying our own hand in the kitchen, Mr. Russell includes recipes for crafting your own holiday brews and cuisine a la biere. He explains styles, serving temperatures and the aging process as it applies to Christmas Specialty Beer. He also includes a section on places to purchase or taste these superb beers. I wondered why no one had written anything like it before. Even the late Beer Hunter Michael Jackson would have been impressed with this brilliant little gem. This promises to be a valued stocking stuffer long after the tree and lights are put away for the season.
Christmas Beer: The Cheeriest, Tastiest, and Most Unusual Holiday Brews OverviewChristmas beers, also known as Winter Warmers, are a tradition dating back at least 2,000 years, with the ancients making highly intoxicating brews to celebrate winter's Saturnalia. This brewmaking evolved into a holiday celebration when medieval monks, the world's first professional brewers, pulled out their finest ingredients to produce soul-warming styles for the occasion. Today brewers continue the custom, either with centuries-old recipes or newfangled concoctions with spices and herbs, enabling thirsty beer fans to put aside their everyday favorites each winter and deck the halls with the world's most flavorful ales and lagers, brewed especially for the holidays.Beer expert Don Russell taps into holiday cheer with a look at the world's best—unusual, exotic, rich, one-of-a-kind brews—detailing the styles and flavors that will leave beer lovers in a froth. From Smuttynose Winter Ale to Santa's Butt to Troegs Mad Elf to Left Hand XXXmas, there's a beer for everyone, even a Hanukkah beer, He'Brew Jewbelation. Including funny tales and trivia behind the beers, homebrew recipes and food recipes with Christmas beer as an ingredient, and instructions for building and cellaring your own vintage holiday brews so you can enjoy Christmas 365 days a year, Christmas Beer will put even the most curmudgeonly beer drinker in the holiday spirit. Cheers!

When Santa Fell To Earth ReviewBen is just beginning to get excited about the forthcoming holiday season, when he learns that his parents have decided to forgo the chilly weather, and head to a tropical environment where they can hang out in the sun, and sip fruity drinks. This news instantly sends Ben into a downward spiral, leaving him upset, and wishing that Christmas vacation will never come. But when he encounters a strange young man named Niklas Goodfellow, all of Ben's cynical emotions fly out the window. Niklas has seemingly appeared on Ben's street out of nowhere, his colorful caravan sitting in a strange spot. On a dare, Ben runs up to the door of the caravan, and meets the peculiar person, and so starts the beginning of a wonderful friendship. Ben soon learns that Niklas is the last real Santa Claus, and that his caravan - pulled by his currently missing, marzipan-loving reindeer, Twinklestar - crashed to earth in the midst of a storm, and is now stuck on this oft-times money-hungry street as he searches for the snow white colored reindeer, and attempts to fix the wheels on his broken caravan. But Niklas is not alone. He has brought two chubby angels with him - Matilda and Emmanuel - who flit around the good-natured man; along with a chest full of little elves who are preparing presents for all of the good little boys and girls. But there is one thing lurking about Niklas that could put him out of business for good. An extreme evil known only as Gerold Geronimus Golynch - a bad Santa who wants nothing more than to take Niklas' boots, and turn him into a bar of chocolate. But now, with the help of Ben, and a bug-eyed girl named Charlotte, along with her dog Mutt, Niklas plans to fight off Gerold, and bring the true spirit of Christmas back to every girl and boy in the world. But if he fails, Christmas may be lost forever.
Cornelia Funke is certainly one of the most intrepid new fantasy writers to hit the scene in years, and the release of her holiday novel, WHEN SANTA FELL TO EARTH, only illustrates that fact even more. Funke's trademark magical scenes, and enchanting moments prevail in this fantastical account of two children looking to help the "real" Santa Claus save Christmas. Funke adds her own little touches regarding the holidays, from making Niklas Goodfellow look quite different from what Santa Claus is known to look like; to giving the elves snippy personalities laced with bad language and fierce tempers. The angels Matilda and Emmanuel are saintly characters, whose good-natured, loving attitudes stay true to the spirit of Christmas; while the marzipan-loving Twinklestar is a supreme trouble maker, who you can't help but love. The friendship that develops between Ben and the unlikely Charlotte is quite a treat to witness; while the snowy world of Yule Land is a beauty all in itself. Coupled with gorgeous illustrations (sometimes full-page ones) by Paul Howard, WHEN SANTA FELL TO EARTH is a wonderful, fantastical joyride into the world of Santa Claus, and the many hardships he encounters each year. An unstoppable holiday thrill ride that will leave everyone in the Christmas spirit!

The Christmas Giant ReviewI got this in the mail today and read it to my one and two year old tonight. The illustrations were full of details like whorly hair on the giant's knuckles. The story is about a giant and an elf who run into trouble delivering a Christmas tree. They use the skills and talents they already have to solve the problem and deliver something better than what they started with. This is a kind tale, with no bad feelings or disagreements. The story gave us a chance to talk about feeling happy and feeling sad. The final solution is clever and beautiful. My kids loved picking out different things in the book, like trees, starts, beards, etc. When it was over, my three year old said, "Let's read it again." I can't say much better than that. I give out very few 5 star reviews, but this was a beautiful book that I highly recommend. Oh, and my kids loved feeling the texturized Christmas tree in the cover illustration. The Christmas Giant Overview

Why the Chimes Rang ReviewI remember reading this when I was young--it belonged to my mother when she was a young girl--it has always been my favorite Christmas book, capturing the true meaning of Christmas and of giving in a simple yet rich and beautiful story. If I could have but one Christmas book this would be the one.Why the Chimes Rang Overview"Why the Chimes Rang" by is a collection of highly imaginative modern fairy tales which inspire children to right behavior. Written by Raymond Macdonald Alden, this classic includes two Christmas stories--"Why the Chimes Rang" and "In the Great Walled Country", plus a variety of other stories (such as "The Knights of the Silver Shield) suitable for different seasons of the year. The title story, "Why the Chimes Rang," is a truly endearing narration about two young boys who dream of going to a special Christmas service at a somewhat distant church. It will take the boys all afternoon to walk to the church. Along the way they come upon a woman who has fallen in the snow and is in desperate need of help. The older brother stays with her and sends "little brother" on to the church for the Christmas service. Afterwards, he is to return with help. The Christmas chimes in this church have not been heard for many years, but they rang that night-all because of two young boys, who in all of their innocence truly understood about giving and Christmas. The favorite Christmas story of many, "Why the Chimes Rang" captures the true meaning of Christmas in a simple yet rich and beautiful way. If you could have but one book (outside of the Bible) for Christmas, this should be the one!

The Paper Bag Christmas ReviewTypically, one would find my wife and I having dissimilar tastes in what we read. She prefers to soak in the 'suspenseful heart-wrenchers', while I tend to enjoy more of the adventurous and humorous stories.
We do, however seldom, find a work of Literature that satisfies us both. "The Paper Bag Christmas" is one such gem that we discovered, love and have added to our family collection. I would highly recommend you do the same.
Milne writes in such a way that you quickly become woven into the fabric of the story, hardly able to stop reading once you have begun. The experiences of the characters become personal and you share every tear and laugh along the way.
A more appropriate recommendation would be to buy two: one for yourself, and one as a gift for a loved one. You are guaranteed to want to share it after you read it. Buying them together will save you on shipping. The Paper Bag Christmas Overview

Just say Noel: A History of Christmas from the Nativity to the Nineties ReviewIn the Foreword to this 1995 book, David Comfort writes that the book "is dedicated to brightening spirits ... How does it propose to do this? By reporting all the joyful and triumphant tales of Christmases past to presents---from the Nativity to the nineties. By mining all its myrrh, frankincense, and gold from the beginning and showcasing it in one modest treasury. Above all, this text is dedicated to giving the season a much-needed update. A spruce-up, a shine, a makeover. The legends of Christmases past, though near and dear to us, have become a bit dated. What about Christmases present? Many heartening but unheralded events have occurred in recent seasons, providing the stuff for a new generation of Yuletide tales and torchbearers."
There are a variety of chapters, such as on "Christmas Song," "Holiday Decoration," "Shopping & Gift-Giving," "Holiday Food and Drink," "St. Nick: Yesterday and Today," and more.Just say Noel: A History of Christmas from the Nativity to the Nineties OverviewDo the holidays make your heart sing, or do they send your blood pressure skyrocketing? Do you smile when you hear the strains of "Jingle Bells," or do you just hear ringing in your ears? Do you want to deck the halls with boughs of holly, or do you want to deck the man in the Santa suit? Whether you treasure Christmas and all the trimmings or you have a bad case of holiday humbug, "Just Say Noel!" is filled with enough gold, frankincense, and myrrthful nonsense to make anyone burst into fa-la-la-la-las and chim-chim-cheries. This joyful and triumphant holiday history is stuffed fuller than any stocking with tidbits and treasures from Christmases past and present: vital statistics on eating, shopping, caroling, and other expressions of the Christmas spirit; Historic Holiday Menus and Recipes from the kitchens of Queen Katherine to First Lady Hillary Clinton; To Be or Not to Be: The Claus Controversy; Gifts and Stocking Stuffers of the Rich and Fmous, including a Neiman Marcus "supergifts" retrospective; The Just Say Noel Gift List: an official catalogue for the men who hate the Yule and the women who have to shop for them; and Snowin' in the Wind: a guide to Christmas protest songs. Here, too, are Nut & Datelines outlining historic holiday happenings (1843: Dickens writes "A Christmas Carol"); Yule School, where you can take a Christmas quiz (Can you name that Noel tune?); North Polls, which chart popular opinions on topics like trees (Scotch pine or polyvinyl?); and, of course, the Rudolph Report. Whether you take your eggnog spiked or with just a cinnamon stick, you're sure to revel in this one-of-a-kind cavalcade of Christmas from yesterday to today--for grinches and good spirits alike!

Santopia - Book One: Santa & the Lost Princess ReviewFar north, in the magical realm of Santopia, the current Santa has a new son. The Wizard issues a prophesy for this new heir to the kingdom, which says baby Nicky will marry the first girl born after him.
But over in the kingdom of Drear, the Countess is nearly about to give birth. After hearing the prophesy, she induces labor and is pleased when her daughter, Dazzle is born. That is, until she learns another couple has also given birth to a daughter, who may have been born before Dazzle.
Upsetting the Countess of Drear is never a good idea, so this poor couple needs to do something quickly before they and their new daughter lose their lives. Escape is dangerous and nearly impossible, and intrigue and treachery abound.
This story is set at Christmas, and is full of colorful holiday imagery. Many of the Santa traditions are included, making the story feel real. But one thing I found a little confusing was the different races at Santopia that all ended in "elves" - Gelves, Trelves, etc.
I enjoyed this story, and found myself cheering for the young couple to save themselves and their daughter. But I have to admit I was a little disappointed in the ending, which left the story at an obvious cliff-hanger. If you love Santa and Christmas, I think you'll enjoy this fast-paced and fun tale.
Reviewer: Alice BergerSantopia - Book One: Santa & the Lost Princess OverviewSanta has a new son, and it's immediately prophesied that the next girl born after the day-old Prince Nicky will grow up to be his Queen.Soon after Nicky's birth, the Baroness von Drear gives birth to a baby girl, but when she discovers that a girl was born to a peasant family just hours before her own, she sets out to kill the baby girl and her family.

'Twas the Night Before Christmas 21st Century Edition ReviewI think serendipity is that thing where you're looking for one thing and you stumble on another. I was looking for a gag gift/stocking stuffer for a friend for the holidays, and I came across this gem. If only the truth is funny and laughter is the best medicine, "Twas the Night Before Christmas, 21st Century Edition" is a whoop-ass dose of truth serum. Being a huge devotee of that near-extinct form of comedy that is satire, I wasn't prepared to find something that not only made me laugh out loud, but I could tell is going to spawn laughs after numerous readings. The text of this send-up is layered with references that actually do more than just play on the surface of the joke they're making--in other words, it's got dimension. It braids images that traffic in homespun holiday cheer while cracking your funny bone with captions written to inflict whiplash they are so sharply drawn. It swings effortlessly between lofty high-brow references (William Safire) that get their requisite share of chuckles, to low-brow humor so pungent you'll remember why you don't like your frat-boy cousin Dirk, and everything in-between. And there is a faux Maxim magazine cover that elevates the form to dizzying heights of comedic lunacy, something this book does effortlessly. And if that isn't enough, it actually has an ending that buttons the proceedings perfectly. So, I'll buy two copies. One for my friend. And the other for me.'Twas the Night Before Christmas 21st Century Edition OverviewIn Kluger and Slavin's rendition, Christmas is no longer a time of sparkling snow globes and neighborly good will, but rather a celebration of profits, bonuses, and cutthroat competition--complete with disgruntled elves, outsourced Santas, union conflicts, Twittered conspiracies, randy reindeer, media hysteria, factory relocations, toxic merchandise, and a giant leveraged buyout that rocks the world from pole to pole.Packing their verse with hilariously spun rhymes ("The workers grew grim, as they churlishly chored / while Santa grew haplessly, craplessly bored") and even funnier illustrations (picture Santa jumping on Oprah's couch and Mrs. Claus in a racy Maxim cover photo), Kluger and Slavin spike the holiday eggnog with smart and saucy sass--not to mention loads of laughs. 'Twas the Night Before Christmas 21st Century Edition, makes the perfect stocking stuffer or lighthearted gift.

Christine Kringle ReviewChristine Kringle is a funny, warm, quirky look at the whole business of Christmas. The main premise is that there is not just one Santa Claus but that every country has their own (of course! That's why they all have different names!) but that they are all part of a giant corporation called The Yule Dynasty. Each year, the Dynasty meets in conference to decide on the pressing matters of the day (what the next big toy will be, which countries are applying to join the Dynasty and so on.) The job of Gift Bringer usually passes from father to son but the Kringle family of the USA only have a daughter and this forms the basis of the hilarious plot to change the Constitution of the Yule Dynasty. Then, in the middle of the debate about whether women should inherit the Gift Bringer job, there is a global catastrophe. A town in England bans Christmas and the implications for the Yule Dynasty are tremendous. It's up to the Yule teenagers to save the day and save it they do (with the help of Babbo Nataleof Italy's flying Ferrari and the supervision of a couple of tall elves - if you want to know more about that you'll have to read the book.) It is a book that, so far, has had adults chuckling their way into Christmas all over the world. Don't miss out!Christine Kringle OverviewA fun Christmas fantasy book about the lives and working practices of the World's Christmas Gift Bringers and how the daughter of Kriss Kringle of the USA and her friends save Christmas from extinction in England.

When Santa Lost His Ho Ho Ho ReviewI purchased this book for my 2 year old son in advance of Christmas, and thought it would be a cute book by the premise. I was disappointed in both the illustrations and the writing. There was nothing clever or amusing about this book at all, which is too bad since the premise should have led to a good childrens' story. It seems like something a teenager would write for a younger sibling. When Santa Lost His Ho Ho Ho Overview
It's almost Christmas, and everyone—from Mrs. Claus right down to the littlest elf—is getting ready for the big day. But there's something wrong at the North Pole. It's just a bit too . . . quiet. Oh no! Santa has lost his laugh! Where could it be? And how can there be Christmas without Santa's Ho! Ho! Ho!

From the author of Santa's New Suit and Who'll Pull Santa's Sleigh Tonight? comes a holiday romp that's sure to make readers giggle with glee.

Holidays on Ice: Stories ReviewThe holidays bring out something truly special in David Sedaris, making this more a "best of" than a mere holiday book. It's simply brilliant and, as many reviewers have experienced, one of those rare books that may cause you to laugh out loud in spite of yourself. Its only flaw is that it's a short book, but in content it's a giant.
Avid NPR listeners will instantly recognize the first essay in this book, "Santaland Diaries"; the author's reading of that story is their single most requested encore. His description of becoming a Christmas Elf at Macy's is a true guilty pleasure; scathingly unkind and screamingly funny. If you ever held an undignified job, this is somehow your story - even if you never (pardon the pun) stooped so low as to play an elf.
Sedaris writes like a post-modern Mark Twain, with a dry and piercing wit that drips with charm and cynicism in equal measure. His is the kind of writing that makes me go back to re-read a sentence, a paragraph, even a whole story hoping to savor some particular gem I only wish I'd written. His tone is often dark, even bleak, but there's a wry quality in his stories that lets you know he's really doing it all for effect - setting you up for an even bigger laugh because you know he's enjoying every minute of telling his sad, hilarious stories.
Get in on his story now so you can savor the feeling of waiting impatiently for his next book - and there's no better way to start than to read Holidays on Ice.Holidays on Ice: Stories Overview

Saving Santa's Seals (LeapKids) ReviewGreatest kids book I've read in a long time!! I am 43 years young and I thought this book was outstanding, I couldn't put it down and had to finish it!
I thought it was a great twist on Christmas with the Santa's Seals helping Santa bring presents by using underwater caves and beaches to meet him with the presents! You have to have beaches at Christmas!
I also loved that Murphy answered my question as a kid, How does Santa get in your house if you don't have a chimney or fireplace? Of course-magic keys for a one time use to get in the door!! Ingenious!!!
My 11 year old and 9 year old have read it and I'm reading it to my 5 year old now! And they love the book!
Just a great story line for any age!Saving Santa's Seals (LeapKids) Overview
"A fun read! Murphy sure knows how to weave a story. He had me from page one. Whether you're a young reader or an adult, you'll want to join the journey. And don't forget to admire the view: Adam Taylor's illustrations are as vivid and evocative as the writing."—Lisa Mullins, PRI's The World

"A captivating, fresh addition to a long list of Christmas titles. Murphy is one of those rare adults who is strongly in tune with his eight-year-old self, able to capture the excitement, adventure, and feelings of childhood, and the magic of Christmas. His tale of twists and turns, actions and dilemmas is told as if he actually lived it. . . . Perhaps he did!"—Martha Zschock, author of Journey Around Cape Cod

"A sweet, imaginative story about something that writers, budding writers and educators can relate to: writer's block."—Emily Chetkowski, author of Pumpkin Smile

Praise for the Belltown Mystery series:

Trip To The North Pole (The Polar Express: The Movie) ReviewSaid a kindly newspaper writer to a little girl who wasn't sure if Santa Claus was real. "The Polar Express" recalls the sentiment of this letter and in fine style, "Trip to the North Pole" takes readers on a memorable ride.
You know, one thing about trains --- It doesn't matter where they're going, what matters is deciding to get on. So says The Conductor, and in this case, readers will enjoy the chance to get back on board for another story based on "The Polar Express." This novelization takes what you like about the film and combines it with additional material from the original script. It even integrates a portion of the song "When Christmas Comes to Town" directly into the story.
Fans of the film who are old enough to read chapter novels will appreciate the extra attention to detail given in this story. Much of the dialogue is extended and there are also nice bonsues, such as the Hero Boy (who is referred to simply as "The Boy" in the text) shaking his head at a display he finds fake and extended ramblings from the Know-it-All Boy. If your kids enjoyed the film, but aren't yet old enough to read chapter boosk, you might consider reading this story aloud to them.
Normally, I find books based on movies that were based on books in the first place to often be so-so at best. But this is a Christmas treat for all fans of the film who truly believe. This book includes fifteen still photos from the film, all in color.Trip To The North Pole (The Polar Express: The Movie) OverviewStraight from the silver screen comes the story of the Polar Express, with an eight-page color insert of movie scenes.

Attack of the Vampire Snowmen ReviewThe great thing about zombie authors is their dedication to the genre...just when I think they have reached the limits of the imagination, I stumble upon something that expands zombie fiction into other genres - engulfs them, really. NOM NOM NOM! While other genres add glitter to their monsters, one author has brought the zombie culture to the North Pole...and vampire snowmen -- a little something from various sub-genres of horror, mixed with suspense, without giving the little ones nightmares.
When I realized that I would be reading a story about vampire snowmen and zombie elves, I didn't know whether to laugh or beat myself with my laptop. After carefully noting in the intro that the author LOVES Christmas and the holiday season, I decided to approach this book with the same seriousness I would give to any fantasy tale. Keep in mind, this is young adult fiction, with the goal of appealing to both children and adults...so, not quite as dark as you might expect, and age appropriate for grade school & up. My 5yr old loved it & wants "the guy who made Nightmare Before Christmas (Tim Burton) to make the book into a movie."
There are Light Elves and Dark Elves; the Light Elves make the toys, and are enjoying a well-deserved night off at an enchanted amusement park. Laidenn realizes that they are about to be attacked by vampire snowman. This is where the author's talent for detail starts to show, when Laidenn prepares to fight with bags of salt. As Laidenn tries to make the other elves aware of the impending danger, we learn more about how the light and dark magic work at the North Pole. We also discover that there are actually two different breeds of vampires as well.
I laughed at the description of the horrible things that took place in Santa's workshop, for instance, Barbie heads with Ken bodies! (Not necessarily scary, but kids will understand how troublesome this can be.) Santa defends his workshop with the stealth and swiftness that would make Van Helsing proud. Don't let the fat, jolly appearance fool you - this Santa has the moves of a warrior. He also has command of zombie elves! This is the Santa I want at my house.
I appreciate that Alano doesn't slack off just because he's writing for a younger audience; too often, I read YA fiction that seems like the authors don't think they have to include as much detail. This is a great story for the whole family, especially if you're already fans of the classic monsters: vampires, zombies etc. I know Christmas will never be the same at our house again.
Happily, this is not the only YA tale from this author: check out Hand Puppet Horror.Attack of the Vampire Snowmen OverviewWith only a few days before the big night, Santa Claus is kidnapped by an army of vampire snowmen; it's up to Laidenn, Claus' only dark elf-in-training, to enlist the help of the living dead elves to defeat the snowmen and bring Claus back.

Xanta Claus: A new story, a new holiday tradition all year long ReviewWhat an original idea for the Holidays!! This book is funny and enjoyable to read. The author has put a new twist on the Santa Clause fairy tale. A very original idea and could become a classic. I have bought several books to give as Christmas presents. This book is for anyone that loves Christmas. The author creatively extended the fairy tale of Christmas into adulthood in this book. You have to read the book to see if the Xanta Clause fairytale is accepted by adults as well as Santa Clause is accepted by children.Xanta Claus: A new story, a new holiday tradition all year long OverviewXanta Claus is a hysterically funny, fresh story guaranteed to brighten your holiday. David Kringle, Santa's brother, who realizes his destiny is to start his own fairy tale, Xanta Claus, which starts where his brothers ends. The new fairy tale is an extension of the family business, but is different in every way! David is a slender, handsome man with a quick wit and a certain charisma with the ladies. He is hopeful he will find the one, even after searching for over a thousand years! The Council of Fairy Tales approves the Xanta Claus charter for a one year provisional trial. Immediately the race is on to start the new South Pole based fairy tale. From the not so nice Elf Union appointed elves, rookie reindeer team and their strict trainer, inexperienced nerd head elf, salty cantankerous plant foreman, and the rest of a colorful, hilarious cast of characters, all with one goal, make the Xanta Claus fairy tale a reality.

The Undead That Saved Christmas ReviewI got my copy of this book this weekend for my boyfriends son, whom couldn't get his nose out of it all weekend. I thought this would be a really great review due to the fact that he is 7 years old and there isn't an age limit for reading this book. I read a few stories in it to ensure it was OK for him to read and he loved it. It has an index in the front and great graphics. He started with all the comics inside the book first and then read the stories that sounded interesting. He ended up reading the whole book in 2 days. Wonderful job to all the people who put the time in to make this happen. Highly recommended!!The Undead That Saved Christmas OverviewThe Undead That Saved Christmas is the heart-chilling anthology with stories across the spectrum of holiday mythology. The perfect stocking stuffer that doesn't include a box of shotgun shells or a macheté, The Undead That Saved Christmas brings together various talented authors and artists from Great Britain, the United States and Ireland. Stories include The Magic of Christmas, by Rebecca Besser; Santa Claws is Coming to Town, by Calvin A.L. Miller II; Night of the Frozen Elf, by Richard S. Crawford; And to All a Good Fright by Stacey Graham; and many others. The anthology also includes rich illustrations by David Naughton-Shires, Jason Tudor, Chris Williams and more. Another thing to expect in this anthology is a fun collection of holiday zombie-themed poems and carols. And to wrap things up there is an awesome assortment of original comics, from Mike Schneider, Nate Call, and many others. Proceeds from the sales of The Undead That Saved Christmas benefit the Hugs Foster Family Agency (hugsffa.org) and will help them give their foster children gifts this holiday season.

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Making Of The Rankin/Bass Holiday Classic ReviewFor all of us, there are symbols of Christmas that were permanently etched in our minds in childhood. Few of those etchings come close to the magic that was created by Rankin/Bass holiday classic, 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer'. No child can resist viewing it when it is televised, because it renders a timeless story about what it means to be human - exploring some of our failings and triumphs, as seen through the eyes of a child. This message is carefully delivered to us through the interaction of irresistible animated puppets.
I consider myself a fan of the TV special, having seen it when it first aired in 1964 (I was eleven years old)... and virtually every time since, that it has been aired.
After reading Rick Goldschmidt's latest book (The Making of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer), I have a much deeper appreciation of what was involved in its production.
Rick, once again, conducts exhaustive research on this Rankin/Bass classic... and then does an eloquent job placing the critical ingredients of the Rudolph TV Special on the pages of his latest book for us to ponder. We learn that the TV Special was successful because contributions to its success were made by a number of key people - all gifted in their own areas. Noteworthy, was the fact that a significant amount of animation frontiering that was done during its production. We also learn that the TV Special was comercially feasible through the involvement of one of the premier technology companies of the day - General Electric.
Rick's book pays homage to these creative individuals (and their work), while enabling us to appreciate them as well. The book includes not only a tidy assortment of 'one of a kind' behind the scenes pictures, but the 'original' screenplay. It is fascinating reading, and will be on display on my coffee table throughout the holidays, and beyond.
I highly recommend it.Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Making Of The Rankin/Bass Holiday Classic OverviewThis is the Behind the scenes story of the classic RANKIN/BASS HolidayTV Special "RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER."
