Annie Clark And The Pearls Of Wisdom Review"Annie Clark and the Pearls of Wisdom" is a magical fantasy for children of all ages. The author gets us right into the story with great economy, gradually revealing Annie's back story as we move forward in action. We sympathize right away with Annie, who tries to cope with the shocking news that she is not at all who she thought she was. Browne does an excellent job conveying Annie's mixed feelings of curiosity, excitement and anxiety over the new magical world that flamboyant Grandma Rose pulls her into. The promise of a centaur ballet and hints that Annie has not been told all there is to know about her own history keep us hooked to the story. Wendy, the 15-year-old main character, suffers from typical teenage worries and woes such as family, popularity, and fitting in. While wearing the sunglasses she finds on her front lawn, she realizes that she can see things that are obviously not of this world...a popular cheerleader in her class resembles an ancient hag, the new boy suddenly sprouts pointy ears, and a little blue man is on the loose who wreaks havoc wherever he goes.
During a visit to her grandmother (who suffers from Alzheimer's), Wendy stumbles through a gateway into another world where she learns that an Elvin prince is in danger and only she can save him. Through a mix-up, she then travels back through time and meets her lively and kind 18-year-old grandmother who she enlists in her attempt to save the prince.
Dragons, witches and evil elves ensue, and Wendy learns a valuable lesson in appearances, bravery and loyalty.
Overall, Now You See It... is a Young Adult book that seems a bit confused over who its target audience actually is. Although the story features a 15-year-old heroine with older teen issues, it appears to be written for a much younger target audience, perhaps in the 10-12 year range. The humor is mostly of the slapstick variety--little blue men called Spreenies who enjoy eating socks seem more the type of character that a pre-teen would find engaging.
Armchair Interviews says: Young adult book that seems to be written for youngest in that age range.

The Winter of Candy Canes (Sweet Seasons Novel, A) ReviewThis is the third book in the Sweet Seasons series and it's written for the teen audience (but you don't have to be a teen to enjoy it!).
I haven't read the first two books in the series but I really felt like this could be read as a stand alone and I didn't feel weird jumping in without reading the other two first.
Candace gets hired to work at The Zone once again as a seasonal employee. This time she is given the dangerous job of being Santa's elf. What's so dangerous about that? Plenty.
But in the midst of the usual teen concerns of earning extra spending money and what to get her boyfriend (and other friends) for Christmas, Candace learns how to look beyond herself and what she sees is quite eye-opening.
Working at The Zone has broadened her friendships and in looking for just the right gifts for them she finds out what life is really like for one friend in particular. Candace has a big heart and she's more than willing to do what it takes to make a difference for her friend.
Also, Candace is the leader for a bible study group and is extremely nervous about it, especially when Joy, the holier-than-thou girl, tests her limits.
Candace will probably remember this Christmas season for a long time.
I enjoyed The Winter of Candy Canes and will gladly let my daughter read it and the rest of the series. It was a light, fun read full of action, age-appropriate romance, and spiritual growth. I like that Candace was her own person and didn't form herself around her boyfriend. She's a down-to-earth kind of girl, not a drama queen (although her best friend is one...they make a great pair!).
I also appreciated the various roles Candace played. From home life, to student, to bible study leader, to employee, to friend, to girlfriend. She handled them all very well and showed that teens don't have to have 'tudes. She didn't come across as some perfect, unattainable character. She's the kind of girl you want your daughter to be...and to be friends with.

Locked Inside ReviewLocked Inside is about a sixteen year old girl name Marnie. Her mother had died 5 years ago and her guardian is a man name Max. Marnie goes to this boarding school, she isn't studying as hard as she should be and ends up not doing well in school. She spends most of her time playing this game online with is guy identified as Elf. After her mother's death, Marnie hasn't really want anyone to get close to her, bascially like disconnecting herself from the world. She soons get kidnap by her teacher name Ms. Slaight where she also meets the guy name Elf in person. I don't want to disappoint anyone by telling the ending so read it to find out. This is an excellent book and I recommend people from ages 12 and up. I really like this book because the author is telling everyone a very important message. I can't wait to read The Killer's Cousin. I have read a lot reviews saying that it is an outstanding book even better than this one. Anyways this is a really REALLY superb book and I hope you read it, you won't be disappointed.Locked Inside Overview

Coexist: Keegan's Chronicles (Volume 1) ReviewWhat I liked about this novel from the start was the fact that it was something I'd never read before - at least not in this exact way, and that is always refreshing. The author offers a fresh concept to the genre and does a good job creating her characters. It was easy for me to get wrapped up in Keegan and her life, and I enjoyed seeing her develop throughout the story. Forbidden Temptation of a Vampire (Sídhí Summer Camp) ReviewThis book was a surprise! I didn't really know what to expect but the story grabbed me and pulled me in right from the very first page. The writing was very smooth and flowed well throughout the entire book. Although there are a ton of books out there with vampires, fairies, werewolves, elves etc..., the author presents a unique viewpoint with lots of little twists and surprises and the story never slows down.I also enjoyed the way the author handled the relationship between the two main characters. She allows it to grow and doesn't rush it and the minor intimacy between them is appropriate and honest. The secondary characters are well developed and I'm looking forward to reading more about them in future books. Forbidden Temptation of a Vampire is definately an interesting and fun read!
I think this book would be a great read for teens and adults alike. He lives a somewhat normal life with his "mother" and "father", until his dreams become more than figments of his imagination. With the help of a mysterious benefactor, Vilmos gets away just before he is found out for what he really is (a wizard-to-be). It is also the story of a princess, who is heartbroken, and the journey she undertakes that changes her life and helps her come to terms with the loss of her mother.
Robert Stanek put together a true masterpiece. Not only did the book set the stage for the following books, but it allowed the reader to feel like they were right there within the story. This is one well written book, as it has a little bit of everything. There's well-developed characters, mystery, suspense, conflict of good vs. evil, and more. This was a truly good book and a pleasure to read. Me, My Elf & I ReviewFifteen-year-old Zephyr Addler has just moved to Brooklyn with her five siblings, her naturopath mother, and her folk-rock-star father from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Switching from being home schooled in a cottage in the woods to attending a sophisticated arts high school in a big city isn't Zephyr's only culture shock. She's living for the first time among humans.
Zephyr is an elf with the magical ability of casting spells and can potentially live hundreds of years. In addition, like all her fellow elves, Zephyr is a tall, gorgeous, green-eyed blonde who is fit and lean from a vigorous, outdoor lifestyle and a healthy, natural diet. She also shares to a great degree the elvish trait of empathetic kindness.
Zephyr's family plans to be away from Alverland, their secret. elvish home, for only a year while Zephyr's dad is making major strides in his musical career. But the adult elves in their close-knit community--especially Zephyr's grandmother--are very worried about what will happen to the Addler family in an "erdler" (human) city. Zephyr doesn't care about any of that. She's got big plans, and she can't wait to get started on them. She wants to act, sing and, most of all, have a date with a cute erdler boy!
This book is well written, and the story is a comic treat. I enjoyed very much learning about Zephyr's life as an elf. She is immensely likeable, as are her eccentric, lovable family. Zephyr's struggles to fit into the human world are at times funny and at others poignant. I also found it very clever the way the author uses Zephyr's virtues of kindness and innocent naïveté to get Zephyr--and her friends and family--into whacky messes.
Teen girls will gobble up this story! And parents will approve very much of the elvish lifestyle. They don't drink, smoke or engage in uncommitted sex, so the book is G-Rated and could safely be read by girls as young as 11.
