Gambit's End: Book Three of the Divine Gambit Trilogy ReviewDespite the attempts of a group of mercenaries-turned-heroes, the creature known simply as the Master now threatens to destroy the world of Tralodren and its existing pantheon of gods and goddesses. As Rowan works to save Cadrissa from the Master, Clara strives to keep hope alive among her companions, for this time, the gods themselves take a hand in shaping the destiny of the world. In this conclusion to "The Divine Gambit Trilogy" (Seer's Quest; Path of Power), Corrie has created a world of warring gods and goddesses; peopled it with humans, dwarves, elves, and other races; and infused it with life and color. This saga of faith triumphant belongs in larger fantasy collections.Gambit's End: Book Three of the Divine Gambit Trilogy OverviewIn the spirit of Eragon, Lord of The Rings, Dragonlance and Sword of Shanara, Gambit's End is the final book in The Divine Gambit Trilogy. A fantasy/action-adventure following up the two well-received previous volumes of the series (Seer's Quest and Path of Power), Gambit's End is a powerful and perfect end to this three part story. Though written for a slightly older market, it can still be enjoyed by tweens to teens and adults of all ages. In Gambit's End, The Divine Gambit Trilogy draws to a close when the mercenaries who have been drawn together since Seer's Quest, face off with The Master one last time. Unable to stop him from claiming his goal of godhood, those that survive discover the full scope of his plans and ultimately see just how large this gambit really is. With this greater revelation the three surviving mercenaries go on a desperate journey to try and find a way to stop The Master from not only claiming Tralodren as his own but all the power of the Tralodroen Pantheon as well. They are not alone in this as the gods have taken action, and sides, adding more complexity and uncertainly to the outcome. Between the various divine factions and alliances, surviving members of a mercenary band desperate to find the key to a weapon they hope to use against The Master, and two cosmic forces who are playing everyone as pawns in their own game, the gambit comes to an end that many had not been expecting.

Dragon Champion (Age of Fire, Book 1) ReviewE. E. Knight's Dragon Champion continues the popular tradition of animal perspective fantasy, but instead of rabbits, moles, or other woodland creatures as the protagonists, he carries it a step further with an animal which itself is a fantasy - dragons. It's a very clever concept, and like Knight's Vampire Earth series, he executes the basic concept with wit, excitement and flair.
Told from the viewpoint of Auron (later AuRon, when his wings develop and he can fly), it's a tale of a dying breed among men, Elves and Dwarves, and one dragon's quest to learn his place in the world and how he might change it.
This is not a fairy tale, for there is plenty of graphic violence, and the novel opens with a rather savage birth ritual involving survival of the fittest from a clutch of hatching dragon eggs. Knight blends his story with fascinating dragon lore, and manages to cover nearly everything you've ever heard regarding dragons, keeping the legends plausible, while maintaining his narrative pace and picaresque plot.
Knight does not make the mistake, as so often occurs in this sub-genre of fantasy, of making every human character evil. There are good and bad men, and there are good and bad dragons.
This novel is complete in itself, but my understanding is that Knight plans to continue the series with novels told from the perspectives of AuRon's surviving sister and brother, and then a grand finale fourth volume tying all three together.
Get in on the beginning, readers. It's going to be something special.Dragon Champion (Age of Fire, Book 1) OverviewAfter escaping those who killed his siblings, Young Auron, a rare, defenseless gray dragon, fears he might be the last of his breed. Armed with nothing but his claws and a boundless determination to survive, he sets off in search of his kind. But to find other dragons-or, at least, find out who's killing them off-Auron will have to search a world of mercenary elves, vicious humans, and dangers of all kinds. Finding allies in the strangest places-and himself along the way-Auron is on the trek of a lifetime.

The Last Dragon ReviewYorsh is a young elf on his own in the world. The elf village that he lived in was destroyed in a flood caused by the continual rain, and now Yorsh, who is a very young child, has no one to help him. Elves are hated and feared by humans, but when Yorsh meets a human woman who is in equally desperate circumstances, she takes pity on him and helps him out. Later, they meet a human hunter who also joins the group. Hilarious misunderstandings ensue, as elves and humans think very differently. In one such episode, Yorsh, who is horrified at the thought of eating anything that thinks, brings the hunter's meal, a rabbit, back to life, much to the hunter's regret. As time goes on, Yorsh and the humans grow to understand and care for each other. When Yorsh discovers a prophecy involving the last elf and the last dragon, he begins to realize that his future may have some surprises in store.
This book caught me quite by surprise. When I read the description, I thought, "Elves..dragons..prophecy..yeah, yeah, seen it before." But really, The Last Dragon turned out to be quite different than what I expected. It's playful and funny, yet touching and poignant. de Mari is obviously smart, witty, and creative, and it shows in every word of this book. The initial misunderstanding between the elf and the humans is funny, but it could have easily turned into a one trick pony that would have eventually become tiresome. But de Mari is smart enough to not try to sustain it for the entire book. Instead, like a composer writing a symphony, she has created variations on the themes of perception and point of view throughout the book. As Yorsh grows, so does his understanding of the world and the other species around him. Yet even as an adult, he retails a certain quality of childlike innocence that is very appealing. I also like the way de Mari makes clever use of repetition of certain seemingly unimportant elements to create connections between the different parts of the story. Sensitive kids should be forewarned that there are a couple of sad parts in the book, but it's not overly scary. The Last Dragon Overview

An Exercise in Futility ReviewAn Exercise in Futility
I was completely and fully blown away. I was not expecting much when I first started this novel as the beginning felt like history class but then before I new it I was on the most amazing trek through the most amazing world and I have this author to thank. If you can stomach a little dry history to get to the juicy details then this novel is sure to please. One last word for the Author, when and where can I get more.An Exercise in Futility OverviewBeyond the borders of the mighty Kalharian Empire, the Tribes of Gurdur wander a vast plain. When the border falls under dispute and his tribe prepares for war, Ezekiel is left behind to train with his mysterious uncle. There he learns the art of necromancy, and begins to wonder: If a man can be brought back to life, why not a civilization?

War of the Seasons: The Human ReviewFor all you lovers of fantasy out there, even if you're not into "YA lit" (that term in itself is so debatable), I would recommend this! It's a quick read, and makes for a good, relaxing, and engaging time. You will fall in love with the reluctant heroine, Story, a believable heroine in a world of faeries, dryads, elves, and selkies that is, surprisingly enough, not so very unlike our own. Read this! You won't be disappointed.War of the Seasons: The Human Overview
Eirnin's silver eyes, now showing hints of bright yellow, widened in astonishment as he stared, transfixed, at the red blood dripping from the wound on Story's foot.

"What are you?"

----------

A simple question with a not-so-simple answer for seventeen-year-old Story, who finds herself, a lone human, thrust in the middle of a war between creatures she once thought only existed in faerie tales.

Wild Fire ReviewNelson DeMille's The Lion's Game is one of the best thrillers ever written, but Wild Fire lags far behind. If you are a DeMille fan, this may be exactly the thing you like, but it put me to sleep. First, there is no plot. From the book's dust jacket and early pages, you know that a wealthy oil man wants to wipe out the people of the Middle East by exploding black-market, nuclear bombs in two American cities, triggering a massive nuclear response onto the Middle East from the United States (Project Wild Fire). We know that it won't happen, so we already know that someone will stop it. Second, the book has endless conversation that drags on forever. Third, we again have Detective John Corey and FBI Agent Kate Mayfield investigating the case, but this is not the capable John Corey that we saw in The Lion's Game. This John Corey is a wisecracking buffoon, and an entire book of his one-liners becomes really tiresome. The story's end is exciting and ties up loose ends nicely. This is the first time that I did not like a DeMille book, but I suspect that his next will create the usual excitement.Wild Fire Overview

Prince of Bryanae ReviewI thoroughly enjoyed reading this book from cover to cover, thanks to superb world-building, nonstop action and suspense, an imaginative setting, and strong, memorable characters. I read a lot of fantasy, and Prince of Bryanae kept me engaged and intrigued as well as (or better than) anything I've ever read.Prince of Bryanae OverviewVENGEANCE FROM THE PASTAfter over a century of valiant service, the elven soldier Willow has buried her past so deeply that even she has forgotten it. Willow must use every resource at her disposal if sheis to save the Prince, even if that means relying on the headstrong andlovesick Private Tamlevar, the inscrutable winged mage Suel, or thedashing but devious Captain Snyde.Willow has been honing hercombat and weaponry skills for over 150 years. A Death At The North Pole ReviewWhen I first began reading A Death At The North Pole I thought I was going to be reading a horror book. I quickly discovered this was more of a fantasy. Usually I do not chose fantasy type books to read, but I was already hooked by the end of the first page.
At the beginning of the book I did not like the main character one bit. I thought she was mean and very rude. By the end of the book my feelings had completely changed. I cannot wait for the next book to find out what happens to Lauren.A Death At The North Pole OverviewDetective Lauren Bruni has dealt with death for her entire life. She has watched it ruin lives, and brought people closer together. Her job taught her to separate fact from fiction. But on a cold December day, all Lauren had believed in would be shattered and tossed aside. Thrust in a world unlike any she has seen before, she investigates a prominent figure's grisly murder, and searches for answers along a strange new set of people. With a killer watching her every move in the background ready to strike again at a moments notice. What is the secret of the death at the North Pole, and what is the larger horror at hand? Life lessons are learned and a realization that sometimes the most real things in this world, are the ones we believe in the least. **This title won a 2009 Editor's Choice Award**

We also learn the awful secret behind these little elf-bugs, and the consequences that come with it. All I can say is that Jill plays an integral role in this volume, which you'll find out when you read it. The climax is reached when Guts enters the Queen Elf's lair and begins to wreak havoc upon her and her "children." Can't wait for the April 2007 release of Berserk Volume 16, where Guts gets to give some payback for the pains of the Heaven's Apostles!Berserk, Vol. 15 OverviewFrom his days as a young mercenary to his time as captain of the Band of the Hawks' Raiders, Guts's life has been defined by his ability to fight and his will to win. Now cursed with the Brand of Sacrifice - a sigil that will forever mark him as prey for the damned - and with his companions dead, his lover's mind destroyed and his one-time commander and friend reborn as a malevolent demon lord, it seems that more than ever Guts must rely upon his instinct to survive. But Hell has many faces, and when what appears to be an innocent country village proves to be a den of tragic secrets, the horror of a fairy tale perverted by pain and hate may prove to be more than Guts can handle!

Selling Out (Quantum Gravity, Book 2) ReviewIf Amazon would let me I'd give this book a 4.5. The culture and descriptions of Demonia were great. Sometimes I felt that if I closed my eyes I'd be able to see Demonia perfectly. I really like that her cultures for each race are so different and that she didn't make the mistake of "humanizing" all her races like so many other authors. If it takes a sci-fi author to write some really great futuristic/urban fantasy I say please, please, please!
There's only two problems I can see anyone having with this book and the first isn't all that bad once you get used to it. Instead of just following Lila like in the first book we are following Lila, Zal, and Malichi and for most of the book they're all in different worlds which is a little more confusing than just changing characters. The bigger problem, to me anyway, is that there are a lot of loose ends and no real ending in this book. A few loose ends are to be expected in a series book, but I like there to be a clear ending to every book. Don't get me wrong, this isn't one of those cliffhanger endings either, but after stirring up that much trouble, solving hardly any of it, and then turning a few pages only to find the end was a letdown.Selling Out (Quantum Gravity, Book 2) Overview

The Capture (Guardians of Ga'hoole, Book 1) ReviewGaurdians of Ga'Hoole is looking like a really great series so far. This author has a very big imagination, and a very stretched vocabulary. This book, #1 The Capture, is very different and I'll tell you why.
There are no people in this book. Just owls. In this book, the owls have dialouge. They're regular characters in the story. It's very exciting to see and think what the owls see and think to each other. I thought that this was very interesting to see how the owls interacted like people. So I kept reading, and started to really like this book.
Soren is a baby owl, just about 2 weeks. He is a barn owl in the kingdom of Tyto. He has a newborn sister, Eglantine, and an older snobby brother Kludd. Soren is living a great life with his parents until he falls out of his nest onto the floor of the woods, or maybe, pushed out. Soren is then scooped up that night by an older adult owl, and taken to an academy for orphan owls. Soren does not like this, he's not an orphan. Soren meets a smaller owl around his age that was also captured. His name is Gylfie. Soren and Gylfie do not like this place, its weird, and scary for them. Soren and Gylfie figure out that this is not a good place to hang out for a while. They have to get out, but how. They have to fly, something that they are not capable of doing as an owlet.
I really recommend this book because, youm really do not want to stop reading. Theres constant action, and constant thinking between the owls. This book is not to long if your worried about that. It's only 235 pages with a chapter about the sequel, The Journey. It's deffinatly action packed when the owls escape. You definitally do not want to stop reading #1 The Capture, and all the other, Gaurdians of Ga'Hoole books. The Capture (Guardians of Ga'hoole, Book 1) Overview

The Warlock (The Nexus Series) ReviewThis book is packed with action and adventure. All ages would enjoy this book. It will get your heart racing and your body shaking! The Warlock (The Nexus Series) OverviewIt's Judgment Day as foretold in the Prophecy of Lum, and the forces of Creation itself are at war. The battlefield is Aerth, a place formed of the fears, dreams and legends of Earth where hope, magik and danger are intertwined and the impossible can still be. In the surrounding dimensional planes, the angels of Upper Etherea, demon gods of Lower Etherea and the supreme beings of Astra watch and grow restless. The Elf Princess: Into the Cursed Realm ReviewIn The Elf Princess, Into the Cursed Realm Holly D.
Farlee takes you on an electrifying adventure. She
includes all of the best qualities in a great fairytale:
horrifying tragedy, damsel in distress, knight on
horseback, and a romantic ending. The difference in this
fairytale and all the others is that she strays from the
norm including great comedy along with wonderful
battle scenes. I was hooked on page one and would
recommend to anyone as a great read.
The Elf Princess: Into the Cursed Realm OverviewFor years, Abigail had stood behind the dark walls of a prison where her father had left her when her mother died, hoping she would die as well—because as long as she lived, her mother lived as well. In one daring attempt, she escaped the bounds that held her there. The Keeper of her prison didn't give up so easily. Abigail suddenly finds herself in the land of the forest king and on a journey to reach her father's kingdom before the Keeper captures her and King Dagon's youngest son, Nathaniel. EXILE (FORGOTTEN REALMS DARK ELF TRILOGY, NO 2) ReviewOkay, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Mr. Salvatore continues to deliver one of the most superb writing styles that I have ever encountered. There is a masterful balance of action, adventure, and character/plot development that is rare to see. Typically, heavy action detracts from everything else, but not here. The characters are so well described and developed that they practically come to life.
This book begins 10 years after Homeland. Drizzt has been living in the wilds of the Underdark after forsaking his kin and their underground city of Menzoberranzan. To adapt to the savage environment, the dark elf has begun to develop into a savage hunter. His only connection to his "human" self is Guenhwyvar, his otherworldly panther companion.
Once again, the balance between action (there are lots of dangers in the wilds of the Underdark) and character development are phenomenal. And of course, once again, I couldn't put this book down.EXILE (FORGOTTEN REALMS DARK ELF TRILOGY, NO 2) Overview

Sky Magic (Haven Series #2) ReviewI downloaded this book the minute I finished reading "Amber Magic". It was even better than the first one. I finished it that night and immediately got the 3rd. I highly recommend this series. The writing is wonderful and the story keeps you on the edge of your seat.Sky Magic (Haven Series #2) OverviewIn Sky Magic, the second book of the Haven Series, the Pact that has kept the peace for centuries between humanity and the Faerie is broken. Oberon, King of the Faerie, lost his Blue Jewel and can no longer command the marching Rainbow to keep the peace. Once again the darkest and most evil of his kind plague human lands. In defense of the Haven, a champion must be chosen to wield the Axe Ambros. Blood Magic (Haven Series #5) ReviewEach book in the Haven series is short, so I read the books back to back in order to make one big fantasy book. Because of this, I am rating the whole series as if it was one book. The Haven series is a great read, and a worthy addition to my Kindle library! Fans of the Fantasy genre will love it, as it includes all the things a fantasy fan craves, without becoming stale and predictable. The many races I have come to know and adore/loathe as this 'book' developed are the Riverfolk, Wee folk, Fae, Kindred, Gnomes, Kobolds, Goblins, Merlings, and the Dead. Though the races are many and varied, the plot never becomes too confusing, and I was always able to keep track of what was going on without difficulty. The author manages to make each race separate and best of all, intriguing. My favorite part of the series was the idea of the jewels of power, and seeing how each jewel worked, and what they could do. It was interesting to see how each race was affected by who had which jewel, and to see all the consequences. There was great character development and great race development throughout the series. I enjoyed the characters immensely, though they all have their flaws. There is one thing that I noticed throughout the series, and that was sub par editing (that being said...sorry for any grammar mistakes I've made in this review!). It DID NOT detract from the story in any way, though, so it didn't bother me. I can't wait to read what is next by this author.
I definitely recommend this book! Happy Reading!!Blood Magic (Haven Series #5) OverviewThe Red Jewel is rediscovered and wielded in this, Book #5 of the series. Blood Magic reigns supreme, but who will master the Red Jewel first? The elder races gather, unhappy with the upstart humans and their possession of powerful Jewels. Brand leads an army of the River Folk and the Wee Folk to the Black Mountains to answer the request of the Kindred for aid. Enemy hosts march to face him. Fantastic forces are unleashed upon the world in a new war that will not be soon forgotten.Blood Magic is the fifth book in this epic series of fantasy novels by B. V. Larson. At 81,000 words the fifth book is the longest of the series.

Repo Elf ReviewLike I said in the title, super twist on an idea. Not to drag this out, but it is a great story and great reading.Repo Elf OverviewMeet Honcho. Not your average Christmas elf, he's the leader of St. Nick's special forces. His mission begins after the holidays, when it's time to reclaim gifts from "N2Ns" - "naught to nice" youngsters who were only pretending to be good in order to get on Santa's list. Honcho's objectives are purely economic - to keep the cost of toy production down - and his mission is going fine, until one year he meets a boy who tries to stop him…

Pearls of the Elf Lords ReviewI don't normally read science fiction, but I've been trying to broaden my horizons and I fell in love with the characters after reading the first chapter!
I only have positive things to say about Pearls of the Elf Lords. It was full of unexpected twists & turns that kept me reading more. The adventures of Landis and his pack of warriors was well worth the ride as they set out to retrieve the lost sword of Alexon in hopes of earning Princess Petra's right to the throne. They learn much on their journey and have much to fear as they enter into battles.
The beloved characters had me cheering for their success. I challenge others to look outside your comfort zone and give this science fiction adventure a try...I was glad I did!
